In the north of England in the 1960s a curious sect of music fans began to gather with a shared love of the uptempo dance music coming out of Detroit and the Tamla Motown music label. Whilst you’ll recognise the distinctive sound of Motown in this episode you wont have heard the thumping high tempo sound that the northern soul fanatics prized so highly.

So here’s a quick run through of the genre, a couple of things you’ll recognise but probably not in a way you’ll have heard before. As you can imagine it’s pretty up tempo stuff so you’ll probably want to clear some space in your living room before you put this on.
